How Hipobuy Shipping Fees Are Calculated

Your Hipobuy shipping fee is not a fixed number — it depends on how the parcel is weighed. Here is what each weight means, which one you are actually charged on, and how the prepaid fee is settled after packing.

When you ship a parcel internationally with Hipobuy, the fee is worked out from your parcel's weight — but “weight” can mean a few different things. Knowing which one you actually pay on helps you avoid surprises and pack smarter.

The weights you'll see

TermWhat it means
Estimated weightShown on the parcel submit page. The system adds up each item's weight, measured when it was stored in the warehouse. Your prepaid fee is based on this.
Actual weightThe real physical weight of the packed parcel (item plus packaging) on a scale. It also appears in your parcel photo.
Volumetric weightBased on size, not mass: Length × Width × Height ÷ a divisor. The divisor differs for each shipping line, so a big-but-light parcel can be “heavier” this way.
Chargeable weightThe weight carriers actually bill on — the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight.

Which weight will I be charged on?

It depends on the shipping line. On Hipobuy's estimation page, each route lists its charging standard:

  • “Weigh by volume” — the line uses volumetric weight (size matters).
  • “Weighing is based on the actual weight of the goods” — the line uses actual weight only.

For bulky but lightweight hauls (puffer jackets, shoe boxes), a volumetric line can cost more than the scale suggests — so comparing routes before you ship is worth it.

How payment works: prepaid, then settled

The fee shown on the warehouse page is a prepaid estimate based on the estimated weight. The final fee is only calculated once the parcel is fully packed and its chargeable weight is known.

After packing…What happens
Estimated > finalRefund. The overpaid difference is credited back to your Hipobuy Wallet.
Estimated < finalTop-up. The system prompts you to pay the small remaining difference before the parcel ships.

Pack smarter to pay less

  • Consolidate items from different sellers into one parcel to cut per-parcel handling and wasted space.
  • Ask to remove bulky shoe boxes or original packaging where you don't need them — it lowers volumetric weight.
  • Compare a volumetric line against an actual-weight line for your destination before you submit.

FAQ

It is the weight your carrier bills on — whichever is greater: the actual (scale) weight of the parcel or its volumetric (size-based) weight.
The estimate is a prepaid amount based on stored item weights. The final fee uses the chargeable weight measured after packing, so you get a refund to your wallet if you overpaid, or a small top-up if the parcel weighed more.
On the estimation page each route states its standard — “Weigh by volume” means volumetric weight, while “based on the actual weight of the goods” means actual weight only.
